CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: A Victorian Christmas

We celebrated Christmas... Villa style with the annual Christmas Bazaar where we bought gifts for family and friends, had pictures taken with Santa and told him what we wanted for Christmas, and entered raffle tickets to win big prizes.
We brought gifts for the less fortunate and put them under the Giving Tree.
A good time was had by all.

In Social Studies this week, we learned about the Natural Resources of the United States. Natural Resources are materials supplied by nature.....for example: minerals, forests & water power.

"The Grand Coulee Dam in the state of Washington produces more hydroelectricity than any other dam in the U.S."

Week of October 7th

In Language Arts this week, we worked on a compare and contrast essay. We found similarities and differences between characters from our summer reading books and ourselves.
One student said, "It was fun....it helped me understand the character traits better".
Another, "It was interesting learning things that are alike and different from a fictional character".

Also in Language Arts, we wrote Hinky Pinkies. These are fun word riddles that we illustrated. We showed our creativity with rhyming and matching it up with pictures.
"They were fun to make and fun to guess our classmates' riddles."
"Making our own was crazy and silly."

Week of October 1st

In D.A.R.E. this week, we got our T-shirts. A few weeks ago, we voted on 3 choices that the DARE Officer brought to the classroom. This picture is the winning shirt. The lesson this week was about the harmful effects of tobacco and marijuana.
Reaction: "We love our DARE T-shirts and like wearing them around school for everyone to see"

The Book Fair was held this week in the library......the Theme was...UP UP and AWAY with a GOOD BOOK. There was a poster contest and a Spirit...Villa Wear...Dress-Down Day. The girls' reactions to the Book Fair: "There was alot of interesting books"....Weird but True was a big
hit as well as Spirit Animals. It ends tonight with Family Bingo in the Gym.
